5G in Pakistan

In August 2019, After conducting the successful test of 5G(5th generation) technology by Zong company. Pakistan is including on the list which will forward toward the development of 5G. According to IT minister Syed Aminul Haque Pakistan will launch 5G(5th generation) technology at the end of 2022. He also said, “Pakistan needed an infrastructure to support 5G(5th generation) technology which will not available right now”. However after the 50-60% implementation of 4G(4th generation) all over the country. Pakistan will work fast on 5G(5th generation) technology. In Feb 2021, PTCL also testing a 5G(5th technology) while its speed touches 1.69gb/s. This means its speed will be 10 times better than 4G(4th generation)technology.

Challenges Faced During Implementation Of  5G(5th Generation)Technology In  Pakistan

  • As above mentioned that Pakistan does not have the infrastructure to built 5G(5th generation)technology right now. So, first of all, network companies need to be agreed to change their network from 4G to 5G. This will require a huge investment.5G towers are fast as compared to 4G but due to shorter wavelength its speed is fast but the range is short. This means more towers are required.
  • According to Wikipedia, there is 118million+ internet user in Pakistan. According to the PTA number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan reached 95.4million in which 3G users are 25.22million and 4G users are 70.18million. This means 48million people do not have 4G access. After 5G technology, more problems will create for 2G and 3G users. We have seen that after 4G technology 2G and 3G networks are useless but sometimes it works. After 5G it is totally useless.

Advantages of 5G in Pakistan

  • 5G technology will reduce the latency rate to less than 20m/s which will be good for online gamers. The ping will be low and the lag will be no more. In this pandemic situation, online education and many other sectors are also affected due to the high latency rate(connection time between sender and receiver) and poor connection. But 5G technology has been overcome this problem.
  • Remote Surgery has been made possible. A Chinese surgeon has performed a successful surgery 3000km away from the patient by using the remote control. This will be very helpful in emergency cases and it will be very helpful if a patient can’t afford an overseas visit.
  •  In November 2020, Pakistan IT minister Syed Aminul Haque performed an experimental video call to Beijing using Zong 5G Network and which has very clear audio and high video quality. Which will be very beneficial for the online education system in the pandemic situation.

Disadvantages of 5G in Pakistan

  • The major disadvantage of 5G technology is its bandwidth. Due to the increase in bandwidth means the range is short. In remote controls area, there is already a shortage of towers but after an increase in bandwidth, network towers will cover the small range area which will be creating more problems for the farthest area peoples.
  • In Pakistan mostly smartphones do not support 5G devices. This means after 5G technology users buy new phones which support 5G.In my view, you don’t need to buy 5G smartphones right now because of the implementation of 5G(5th generation) technology will take 6 to 7 years in Pakistan.

 Conclusion

In this topic, we discuss how Pakistan moving towards the 5G technology. Which steps the government should be taken toward the implementation of 5G.what are the advantages and disadvantages of 5G technology in Pakistan and how it will affect people's daily life problems?. If a Government solves all these problems then 5G technology will be making our lives easier in this fastest world.
